This was probably my favorite of the three, Because the writing got way better. She didn't have the characters ramble so much. You got to feel a bit more emotions.

Also this one had cute kids, funny old ladies, and a strong heroine. Jul 26, Sandy M rated it liked it Shelves: western , contemporary. This third book in her Lucky series is a little better for me than the second book was.

First is the dialogue. Also, the way the author chooses to have Annie and Lizzy speak in this book is just as bad. Well, these two kids definitely do that.

Quite a bit. What irritated me even more than the fact that they do it so much is that neither of their parents, nor their grandparents, aunts, friends, or whoever, ever correct them to teach them to speak properly.

We all correct kids when we hear poor grammar coming out of them, but not once did that happen in this book. The only correction either child got was the pronunciation of the name of a town.

But it did happen with heroine, however; her mother corrected her at least once. My second issue with this book is the downright meanness some of these townspeople have for each other, all the name calling that goes on.

Okay, I know this stuff happens in real life. I especially got tired of two mean old women going after each other every time they showed up in the story.

I found that simply outrageous. And all this seems to be a way of writing for Ms. Brown in this series. That was part of my problem with the previous book I read.

But the way it is now, is just too negative to read over and over and over again. What is good about this book, though, is the fact that despite these things, Ms.

Brown makes me care about these characters. I liked the premise of this book. The charismatic G. Luckadeau shipped out to Iraq the very next day, so when she finds herself pregnant, she has no way of getting hold of the man.

Jo to start anew. Come to find out, her one-night stand has a twin brother, Griffin, and now he thinks Julie is only in St. Though they also have some arguments that are a little too much and too frequent when a different type of scene would have worked, I cared about what happens to them and their daughters.

I wanted to know how they were going to come to an agreeable solution to their situation, something that would work for everyone.

For me, all those extraneous characters and their name calling could have been left out, Griff and Julie could have worked together sooner, and the book would have gotten a much better grade.

I wanted to read more of her work after reading the previous book to see if the negativity is a theme in her writing. Jun 21, Wendy Hines rated it really liked it.

The third in the Lucky trilogy, Ms. Brown does not disappoint! I was as captivated with this one as I was with the previous two.

Griffin Luckadeau is a single dad raising his five year old daughter Lizzy. He divorced her mother when she was a baby, and paid her off to get sole custody.

Lizzy has the lucky streak, a white streak down the part of her dark hair. Imagine Griffin's shock when he finds himself staring at Lizzy's twin on her first day of kindergarten.

Julie Donovan moved to town to get a The third in the Lucky trilogy, Ms. Julie Donovan moved to town to get a fresh start for her and her five year old daughter Annie.

Her husband divorced her for adultery, even though they were technically divorced when she had a drunken one night stand five years ago with a soldier named G.

She is as shocked as Griffin is when she sees the two girls together. She wastes no time yelling at Griffin because he doesn't remember her.

He swear he never saw her before in his life, and it isn't long before the whole town is passing judgement.

Annie is the daughter of Griffin's twin brother Graham, but the townsfolk naturally assume she is Griffin's.

Even though there are sparks between Julie and Griffin, it goes no further. He is determined she planned it all out, coming to town to ensure she gets a piece of the Luckadeau money.

Julie just wants to be left alone, raising her daughter. She sure didn't plan to leap from one frying pan to the other.

She may be attracted to Griffin, but he can't get past the fact she slept with his late brother, and she can't move past the fact she is six years older than him.

Women who aren't scared to speak their minds and fight with all they have for what they believe in. I laughed out loud in several places as well as wiped a few tears.

Carolyn Brown has magic at her fingertips when she writes. I'm actually sad to see this series end; I could read about the Luckadeau's for a long, long time.

Aug 26, Gina rated it it was amazing. Another great read from the awesome Miss Carolyn Brown!!! I love her cowboy books.

May 18, Angela Simmons rated it liked it. Rating 3. Yet as the two little girls grow closer and event throw Julie and Griffin together, he soon starts to realize just what an amazing pair they make.

I thought that Griffin and Julie were interesting. Both were amazing parents and seem to be good people who stepped up when they needed to.

But they both had major flaws. Julie was constantly going on about how she was older and wiser than Griffin so she knew what was best for him and the girls.

There was no relationship growth or even a getting to know you period. It just seemed a bit odd.

This was my first time listening to Brian Hutchison narrate and I found him to be enjoyable. It was lacking in the romances department but still a worthy read.

Dec 28, Willmetta Owens rated it liked it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Darn, I should have taken a break between the 3 books.

I haven't read a western romance set like this so I had to get used to the words. I was hoping for something different because again the main story was good but the characters we exactly the same Stubborn spitfire woman meets just as stubborn spitfire man.

They don't like each other. He thinks she's after his money. She has her own and not saying anything.

All the women ran from something from the past. They all had no nonsense knock you Darn, I should have taken a break between the 3 books. They all had no nonsense knock you on your rear attitudes.

It wasn't believable to me with the characters being too much alike anymore. Great book! This book reads great as a standalone.

I have not not the first two books in this series. Julie and her daughter move to Saint Jo to start over, she was tired of the gossip about her and her daughter.

Griffin does not trust Julie and thinks that she had an ulterior motive for moving to Saint Jo. Aug 28, Lori rated it it was amazing. I just love Carolyn Brown!

She has a way to draw you into the story and make you feel a part of it! This was Griffin's and Julie's story.

What a firecracker Julie is! Her one night stand six years ago turns out to be one of her greatest joy's in life. Until she meets Griffin Luckadeau!

I loved the banter between these two! I fell in love with the kid's and of course the most hilarious old ladies! What a great book with many laugh's and coming together moment's.

Mediocre romance story although the beginning was interesting and the confusion real. The story line seemed to drag out for ages. Julie as a mother was interesting but not so much as a lover.

Griffin was a bit too laid back for my tastes, although he had his moments. Overall, a bit disappointing. Absolutely wonderful, fun, tearful, heartfelt, everything you want in a great book.

Absolutely wonderful, fun, tearful heartfelt, everything you want in a great book. This series has been so much fun to read.

Lucky This is another good book by Carolyn. I have enjoyed this series very much. I love the banter between the older characters in the book.

They had me laughing. I love Julie and Griffin' s family. Love Love these luckedeau men in the Lucky Cowboys series!

This book is full of amazing strong women and fierce men who may be a little slower to recognize love! Definitely recommend it!

Great read The book had believable characters and a realistic settimg. Did not like the way five year olds were almost out of control.

Feb 25, Bernie rated it it was amazing. Getting Lucky is the third book in the Lucky series written by author Carolyn Brown.

I have really enjoyed this series. Love it I have read several of her books and love how they all follow book after book.

I love seeing how the families have grown. May 28, Hbeebti rated it liked it Shelves: contomporary , used-bookstore-finds , cowboys.

My favorite parts of this book was reading the scenes with the two little girls. The others were just annoying. Fun Romance This is was a surprising beautiful little love story with some endearing moments and adorable and charming characters that will steal your heart.

Julie and Griffin I loved this book. Julie moves with her daughter to the country. She meets Griffin the first day of kindergarten.

Their daughters look alike. A great romance. Mar 10, Rachel rated it did not like it. The Luckadeau series is horrible. The Burnt Boot series while redundant, was better than this series.

Too much drama and angst for my liking. A big NO. Jul 06, Melanie Escaravage rated it liked it. Wasn't a bad book, also wasn't great.

The last chapter felt very rushed. Good reading I really enjoyed this series of books. They are funny, loveable, and endearing. The series is well thought out and very believable.

Mar 07, Heather Lire rated it really liked it. I got this book in the mail a couple of weeks ago along with a bunch of other books from a contest that I won over on RomCon's site.

I had never heard of this author so I thought why not and started reading it. Before I knew it I was hooked, and completely caught up in the story.

I had it in my purse and at stop lights would pull it out to read because I couldn't put it down. I liked Julie, she is a single mom that puts her child first by moving to a new small town in Texas, thinking that it will I got this book in the mail a couple of weeks ago along with a bunch of other books from a contest that I won over on RomCon's site.

I liked Julie, she is a single mom that puts her child first by moving to a new small town in Texas, thinking that it will be a fresh start for them.

What she gets instead is a whole heap of attitude from the father of one of her new students and her daughters best friend. She hasn't had a great track record in the relationship department either.

One thing she does gain is a new best friend. Griffin is one of those cowboys that you have to sigh over, no matter how long you have been married and how much you love your husband, he was a tall dish of yum.

He reluctantly agrees to enroll his daughter in kindergarten and discovers a little girl that is the spitting image of his daughter. I loved how the conflict over why their daughters look so much a like to a couple of chapters to reveal, and that once that had been revealed there was still conflict between the two of them.

The sexual tension between them was awesome, with both of them not wanting to acknowledge it to the other and trying to figure out what it means for them, not to mention what they believed about each other in the beginning.

Kids in a romance story can go a couple of ways, this story had them right in the middle of everything, they were the catalyst for a lot of what happens between Julie and Griffin, the author did a great job in how she wrote them in the story, they were five years old and they acted like five year olds.

The secondary characters were awesome in this book, there were the couples from the first two books, all of their relatives, plus the towns people.

They add a lot of spice and humor to the story, making for a very entertaining read. I do have to say that the scene where Julie meets his mom and sister is one of the best scenes I have read in a while.

I read that part three times it was so entertaining. All in all I really enjoyed this book, enough so that I want to read the first two books, even though I don't have to as their stories are told in condensed form in this book.

The book was engaging, funny, heartfelt at times, you fall in love with the characters and can't wait to see how they resolve their issues.

I have to say that I am really glad that I got this book. I give this book a 4. Oct 19, Gina rated it it was ok.

Getting Lucky by Carolyn Brown. The dialog is an absolute joke and probably should be used for a drinking game. There are so many plot points that the story just bounces from Getting Lucky by Carolyn Brown.

Lee just perfectly nails oh, that pun was honestly not intended the complicated emotions that go along with having sex with a partner, what it means when one person has experience and the other doesn't, and how loving the person you're with changes everything. Something catches him about this guy, and an obsession starts to grow. The great revelation of this book is not what you expect.

What the reader finds is great depths of humanity, the impulse to suppress selfish needs in order to care for someone even more desperately alone than you are.

What begins as a straightforward lust obsession transforms into something entirely different — which of course the author uses very cleverly to add a kind of kinky edge to the sexual tension that builds from the very start.

Jan 31, Ed Davis rated it liked it. He sounded more like a sexy thirty. The guy who read James sounded strange and kind of creepy. Aug 09, Chris rated it liked it Shelves: erotica-kink , mm-contemporary.

Feb 16, Brenda Motza rated it it was amazing. GEE I have to 5 star this wonderful book. I just love a Daryl Banner book and this one went above and beyond!!

He knows how to put so many feels into a book and make you literally swoon for all of the characters. James first notices Lucas Lucky across the lobby of the hotel that he and his friends were checking into for the weekend.

James was immediately smitten and could not get him off of his mind the whole weekend and even after he returned home.

So, he ended going back to the hotel by OH. So, he ended going back to the hotel by himself the next weekend in hopes of seeing him again. This was such a great read.

It was a beautiful long read. I don't usually go for the longer ones because I like instant gratification but with how they met and why Lucas was on the streets, it took some time to get it out there and for the reader to understand that these two weren't scamming the other.

I just fell in love with Lucas and wanted to see his life change for the better. I was cheering, in my head, that these two would give each other what they were missing in life.

Basically, someone who each could care for and more than just sexually but mentally as well. I really didn't want this book to end. I enjoyed it that much.

I was flipping those Kindle virtual pages as fast as I could because I was desperate to see what was going to happen next.

This is a total MUST read! View 1 comment. Mar 03, Rohit rated it it was ok Shelves: m-m. I don't know when I skipped the ending all together.

Maybe other things in RL came and I just forgot and for a second I was like, I don't remember the story at all. But then I went through my notes, and yeah, it's a pretty baseless start with a horny older guy who likes to take care of the witty not so much rich-livin-on-street champ.

I'm pretty sure I was cringing a lot and trying to bide my time because I was expecting the Daryl fun, which I didn't get. I do believe Daryl can write but this I don't know when I skipped the ending all together.

I do believe Daryl can write but this one was so half-assed for me except the blowjob. That was hot stuff. Jun 10, namericanwordcat rated it really liked it Shelves: banter , 4-star-romance , sub , opposites-attract , difficult-parent , male-male , contemporary-romance , witty-h-h , bisexual-male , gardening.

This improbable romance snuck up on me and punched me right in the feels. This love story is nuts--homeless 19 year old, closed off and suspicious, a banker worker in his 30's, lonely and kind.

Lucas is young and stuck in living on the streets. While Daryl Banner could have spent more time detailing why it is so hard to get a foothold on a job or housing once homeless, he elected to spend more time on the relationship between Lucas or Lucky and James.

The exact setting could have been clearer This improbable romance snuck up on me and punched me right in the feels. The exact setting could have been clearer and Lucas' stepmother could have been less cartoonish but this are small quibbles.

James is wildly attracted to Lucas in this character driven romance but does not wish to be someone who takes advantage and really he wants Lucas to desire him.

There is a lot of careful thought about power here, consent, and agency which is why I ended up liking this book so much and being moved by it as well.

Lucas chooses. James chooses. Yeah, there is an age gap. So, what? I love age difference romances that deal with the impact of that aspect of the relationship and this one does.

The friendships in the book as well as the family relationships are well drawn. And yeah, it is leaps of trust and fast but it makes sense and really the vulnerability of both these heroes as well as emotional intelligence despite the stuff they are wading through makes Getting Lucky a great read.

Feb 17, Jon rated it it was amazing Shelves: favorites , kinky , Why haven't I discovered Daryl Banner earlier? This is such a beautiful and tender book.

Feb 15, Mia rated it it was amazing. I have yet to read a book by Daryl Banner that I didn't love and this one is no exception.

James and Lucky are quite the pair and I loved reading their story! Apr 11, Elsbeth rated it it was amazing Shelves: age-gap , favorites-m-m , m-m-romance-fiction , worth-rereading , hurt-comfort.

What a pleasant surprise this was. The blurb let me think this book was going a certain way. I was waiting everytime for the other shoe to drop.

But this was just an amazing story about two guys being lucky enough to have found each other. I loved Lucas Lucky and was thrilled him being so right for James.

James never gave up on finding his perfect man. That was so hot. Definitely will be checking more of this author. Mar 02, AG Reads marked it as dnf.

The writing style and 1st person POVs are driving me crazy. James, who is supposed to be the older MC in his 30s and a banker, speaks and thinks like a college freshman.

This book has a lot of good reviews, but I'm clearly the wrong audience for it. Apr 07, Theresa rated it it was ok. Wannabe BDSM. Daydreams and flirty dialog about spanking with a belt, but didn't deliver.

Huge gap between ending and epilogue. Jul 23, Kim rated it it was amazing. This book is a mm contemporary story.

I loved this book from the first chapter. I could not put this story down. Mar 02, Tizerkane rated it did not like it.

This is wrong wrong wrong! This is an abuse of a great platform and I do NOT condone this behaviour!! It's because of authors like these that the rest of us can't have nice things!!

The progression of the relationship was believable. A really amazing, satisfying read. Apr 22, Tristan rated it really liked it Shelves: bdsm.

I walked in the story expecting a fun ride of kinky smex, but what I found instead was a slow blooming romance with an easy yet memorable flow to it.

There are more layers on the book than what we see on the surface. When I peeled through all of them, what left behind was a memorable sweet story.

I like the mode of the book, it was fun, exciting, and yet tender at time. It made the story felt real, like a story you heard from the character not words on the pages.

I like the balance between the kink and the soft side of their relationship. The power dynamic are depict beautifully here, even though they are only light kink.

I appreciate the author's effort of developing the relationship, and let the kink grow naturally with it.

It was kind of slow and the characters didn't reach me. I didn't dislike it, just didn't love it. I did like that background for each character and the main story line, I just wish it had more meat.

For me the best thing about this audiobook was Alex Kydd, I wish he had been the main narrator. He doesn't really have a dominate male voice so I think him being cast as the dominate man in the story made this feel a little off for me.

A week later, he still can't get this sexy mystery man out of his head. On a whim, he decides to go back to the casino the next weekend to look for him.

What he didn't expect to find was his future! True to Daryl Banner form, this is about life, love and chances. I'll be honest tho, around chapter 23 I was a little worried that there wasn't any "drama".

Don't get me wrong, the story progresses nicely by itself, I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop It wasn't much but it was enough to keep me satisfied.

I loved it, highly enjoyed it and can't wait for another Daryl release alread! Feb 17, Elizabeth rated it really liked it Shelves: arcs.

Where to start The author definitely knows how to write awkward tendencies into his stories, really knows his way around a steamy scene, and also has the ability to insert levels realism into his books.

The book starts off slow, but stick wi Where to start The book starts off slow, but stick with it. Holy crap, talk about a major case of the feels and a little bit of a book hangover.

I need a minute or two to process it all. You'll run the gambit of emotion with this story. This isn't your typical romance of jumping into bed quickly and turning it into a relationship, or two strangers having chance encounter, or friends who become lovers, or a second chance romance; this is something different.

There is a development of relationship unfolding, anticipating what others will think of their relationship and not because their gay; this growing bond that started before intimacy even became a player in the game.

Feb 16, Sue rated it it was amazing. Not your usual love story, but the one of the best kinds. We all know that no matter what we say, looks are usually the first thing we notice about another person and so it was with James.

When he saw Lucas, there was just something about him that drew him in. The chances of them ever really meeting were slim, but James just couldn't let it go.

Much of the story centers around judgments that we make about other people. Lucky assumed that James was just some rich jerk. James just wanted to help t Not your usual love story, but the one of the best kinds.

James just wanted to help this man who was a bit down on his own luck. James felt like a loser in love. The two of them together find peace and a way to make each of their own fantasies come true.

Not many people would take the risks that either of these men take to get to know each other but seeing them find their peace, their way, their closure as they each need was just a beautiful thing.

And steamy? Yes there is that too! Feb 16, Monica Murphy rated it it was amazing. This is such a wonderful story. James notices and pursues Lucky - who he sees while he is on a casino weekend guy trip with his friends.

He goes back the next weekend by himself and tries to find Lucky - although he does not know his name or where he lives.

He ends up finding Lucky, spends time with him and offers to bring him home - to help him get back on his feet and be safe.

And Lucky has a hard time at first - trying to trust that James is not just after something from him.

There is an age g This is such a wonderful story. There is an age gap between Lucky and James - 14 years. But they both have something to offer each other.

James is really caring, but needs a firm hand. Lucky is down on his luck and needs someone that truly cares about him, and needs to trust that that person will be there for him.

Perhaps your second tip off should have been when the introductory skit implies that it may have been straight-to-cable. And yes, it has somewhat questionable acting.

And yes, the plot is ridiculous. But let's like, face it man So this movie is cheesey beyond all cheese. And I mean that in the best possible way.

It is hardly a movie that will leave you rolling over in pain from belly laughing, but the chuckles are constant and regular.

This film was clearly intended to be a fun way to pass 90 minutes of your life, and for me, it succeeded in that - in spades. I'm glad I watched it and would thoroughly recommend it.

Some movies are so bad, they're good. This one is so bad It's the perfect storm of terrible acting, cringe-worthy cinematography, and really poor writing.

And, did I mention the terrible acting? I assume this was some kid's high school film project. As such, I guess it's not a bad little effort.

If somebody was really trying to make a movie, though, that's a shame. I should mention a couple of pluses: the story nicely adheres to some traditional morality, and out of nowhere the film includes a horseback mounted barbarian.
